Seminar Announcement: From Laboratory Curiosities to Commercial Powder Processing Plants - Persistence in the Face of Adversity (A Personal Perspective)

Thursday, January 25, 2024,
6:00pm to 7:00pm
MST
Virtual / Online

SPEAKER:   Dr. Al Weimer, Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering at University of Colorado (Boulder)

DATE and TIME:  6:00 pm- 7:00 PM Mountain Time Zone, Thursday, January 25, 2024

ABSTRACT: Excerpts will be taken from this open access paper published in Powder Technology (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.powtec.2023.118279) as personal examples for how to overcome professional/personal barriers along the way as novel technologies are commercialized. The paths from laboratory curiosities to commercial powder processing plants had many obstacles to overcome and many forks and bends in the road. One example is from industry and one is from academia.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY: Al Weimer is Clark Professor of Chemical Engineering at CU Boulder. He is an industry to academic transitional faculty member, having worked over 16 years with the Dow Chemical before moving to CU in 1996. He has been named Inventor of the Year at both Dow and CU and received both Dow’s Excellence in Science and Ceramics and Advanced Materials Founder’s Awards. He has multiple AIChE and Dept. of Energy Awards including the PTF Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a member of the National Academy of Inventors, is named Inventor on 46 issued U.S. Patents and has published 240 peer-reviewed papers.
